About the Contest:

The 2024 SDTCC Reviewers of Tomorrow Writing Contest is intended to promote and encourage the art of thinking critically about theater. The contest, which opens January 1, 2024, and will run through December 1, 2024, is available to middle, high school, and community college students in San Diego County and creates an opportunity for students to engage in the art of theatrical reviews for amateur, scholastic, professional, and digital/streaming theatrical productions.

Recognition:

The winner(s) of the contest will receive special recognition at the February 2025 Craig Noel Awards.

Rules:

  1. Contest is available to middle, high school, and community college students in San Diego County. Students must complete the registration form in advance of participation: https://bit.ly/ReviewersofTomorrow
  2. Participants can submit up to three (3) different pieces of writing for consideration for the contest. These written submissions can be submitted individually or at the same time but are due on or before 11:59pm on December 1, 2024. Each submission must be for a different production/show. Reviews can be written for amateur, scholastic, professional, and digital/streaming theatrical productions; permission to review non-traditional events (awards ceremonies, other types of productions, etc.) should be requested in advance of submission via email at info@sdcriticscircle.org. When submitted, articles must include:
    1. Student’s Full Name
    2. Student’s School
    3. Show Title:
    4. Date of Performance:
    5. Where The Production was Seen: 
    6. Headline
    7. Body of Writing
      1. Articles will generally use AP Style formatting and range from 400-800 words, though alternate formats (video, nontraditional review, etc.) and lengths are acceptable as well. Advance permission is not required.
  3. If students would like guidance on their work, they can submit it via email to info@sdcriticscircle.org for feedback; however, any piece receiving feedback will no longer qualify for inclusion in the contest.
  4. Students under the age of 18 must have parent/guardian permission in order for their work to be potentially published.
  5. Permission must be submitted both via the registration form and via email at info@sdcriticscircle.org. Any questions can also be directed to the email address as needed.

All entrants are also bound by the extended Official Rules.
